Finding A Website Copywriter

Finding A Website CopywriterSometimes it can be tough to find the right website copywriter to work with. This is only natural. After all, you’ve probably never worked with a website copywriter before so you likely have no idea what to look for in one.

The search for a talented, honest and skilled web content writer can seem a bit difficult, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

A good tip is to follow the same guidelines you would follow when working with any service provider.

Do a bit of research beforehand to figure out exactly what you want or need. This will give you the information and knowledge necessary to make an informed decision. Look into what a website copywriter does and how it can benefit you. Decide what services you need now before you speak to anyone who may try to sway your opinion.

It’s likely a good idea to check the references and/or testimonials of the content writer you’re planning on working with. If he or she has any writing samples, that would be great as well. There are two things to keep in mind during this step however. 1) Some companies do not want it to become public knowledge that someone else writes their website or blog, so the writer may not be able to share this information. 2) Just because a writer is new or has a small portfolio, it doesn’t mean he or she isn’t a talented writer. It just means you’ll have to do some additional investigating.

Have a conversation with the web content writer about your project. This can be done in person, on the phone or via email, depending on your preference and the writer you are talking to. You’ll likely be working very closely with the copywriter for at least a short while, so you want to ensure that you can get along with him or her and that you’re able to communicate effectively.

Ask a few questions during this conversation. Find out how the content writer gets the ideas for his or her writing. How does he or she conduct research? How much of your input is required? Discuss the process and how long the project will take. Ask about the person’s experience. In general, you’ll want to get to know the copywriter a little bit and get a feel of his or her work style.

Check around and contact at least a few different website copywriters. Just because someone is highly ranked on Google or recommended by several people that doesn’t make him or her the best choice for you. You’ll want to work with someone who understands your unique project and is willing to work with you to accomplish your goals.

A good website copywriter or web content writer will be honest and open with you about how he or she works. Each writer will have a different style, but you should never feel like you don’t have all of the information you need when you need it. Communication is key. You’ll want someone who responds to your requests and your questions promptly and honestly.

A good website copywriter can add a lot of value to your website and your business so taking the time to find the right one is certainly worth it.
