Five Simple Ways To Increase Website Traffic

Almost everybody wants to increase traffic to their website. If you look around the Internet, you’ll find hundreds of different ways to do so. Some of these ways work and some do not. Some of these ways are very time-consuming. For some methods, such as major design changes and written content overhauls, you may want to hire someone to do the work for you in order to save time and frustration.

However, there are a few simple things that you can do yourself in order to increase website traffic.

Check your analytics

Whether you use Google Analytics, StatCounter or another service, it’s important to know where your traffic is coming from. Yes, you’ll want to know how much traffic you’re getting overall, but where you’re getting it from is perhaps even more important. For example, if you find that you’re getting a lot of traffic from referrals but very little traffic from Google, for example, you know that you need to work on search engine optimization.

Adjust your keywords as needed

Once you’ve taken a look at your analytics and determined where your traffic is coming from, you may want to adjust the keywords that you are focusing on. If you rank highly for a certain phrase that is rarely ever searched, you’re probably not helping your traffic. However, if you rank highly for a popular phrase that has nothing to do with the actual content of your website, you’re not doing yourself any favours either. If people type “Search Term A” into Google and find your site, they won’t even click the link if they can easily recognize that your page has nothing to do with “Search Term A.” Even if they do decide to visit your site, they’ll leave as soon as they realize that you’re not offering what they want. Changing the keywords you focus on can certainly help you. Yes, you want to increase website traffic but you want to gain quality traffic, not just any traffic.

Define your niche

A good website focuses on what its users want. You don’t want to have such narrow appeal that your audience is very small, but you also don’t want to be so broad that your website is bland and uninteresting to pretty much everyone. For example, if you sell computers in Toronto, your website should be focused on attracting people who want to buy computers in Toronto. You probably don’t want to focus entirely on one computer model or just one neighbourhood because your audience will be too small. You also won’t want to focus on anyone in the world who is interested in computers, because you’ll be lost in the shuffle. Finding an appropriately-sized, relevant niche is the key to attracting quality traffic.

Update your content

Keep your website relevant and up-to-date. This will not only improve your Google ranking, but it will also let your visitors know that you keep your business current, that you stay in the know and that you are focused on always growing and improving. An out of date website gives a poor impression and it makes your company look out of touch. This goes for your website design as well.
